All Saints Parish Newsletter

All Saints Margaret Street E-Newsletter 24 May 2013

Dear Friends,
This week we have two processions: one on Trinity Sunday; the other our procession round the parish on Corpus Christi.

"Procession" is a word also used by theologians to speak of the relationships within the Trinity and in the relationship between God and the world.

The city council and police call our outdoor processions "demonstrations."
The dictionary definition is: "an exhibition of public opinion on a political or other question, usually taking the form of a mass meeting or procession." The dictionary also speaks of "the action of pointing out, indicating, or making known, a sign."

Our procession is a making known the ultimate truth of human life and all creation as having its source and ending in the triune God. It takes the Blessed Sacrament out into the streets as Christ came into the world, and then returns to church as Christ ascended to heaven; not abandoning his creation but taking it into the union with God for which it was made.

In the last few days, a street in our city has been stained with the blood of a young soldier, a husband and father, supposedly in the name of God.

Some years ago, one of the police officers shepherding our Corpus Christi procession through the traffic of Oxford Street was a Muslim woman wearing a hijab as part of her uniform.

I shall be remembering her and Fusilier Lee Rigby as we walk and sing, and I hope, smile – to demonstrate the love of God for the world.

20 to 31 May – ASMS PARISH OFFICE REFURBISHMENT WORKS
The All Saints Margaret Street Parish Office will be closed for refurbishment works from Monday 20 until Friday 31 May inclusive which may disrupt communications a little. CAPITAL VISION 2020: PRAYING 24/7 FOR LONDON
The Diocese of London and St. Paul’s Cathedral, in association with 24/7 Prayer and Holy Trinity Brompton, are setting up a week of prayer leading up to the launch of Capital Vision 2020 on 6June. As well as space for prayer in the cathedral during the day, parishes are being encouraged to take part.
At All Saints, there will be a Vigil of Prayer before the Blessed Sacrament on Wednesday 5 June from 7pm until midnight. The vigil will include readings and prayers as well as silence. Please come and join us for as little or as much time as you can spare.

Thursday 27 June, 5.45pm – EVENSONG at All Saints Margaret Street – ‘Capella’ from the Wallace High School, Lisburn, Co. Antrim.
‘Let all mortal flesh’ Bairstow – Stanford in C – Greater Love Ireland.
Please come and support this youth group in their choir tour of London, when they will also be singing at Southwark Cathedral. Please note: on this occasion, Confessions will be heard from 5.15 – 5.45pm.
 
Friday 28 June, 7pm – ALL SAINTS VOLUNTEERS PARTY
To express our appreciation to all those who give freely of their energy, talent and time to make much of what we do at All Saints possible.
 
Saturday 6 July – Cell of Our Lady of Walsingham – DAY PILGRIMAGE to
St Mary’s Willesden.
